NORTH COMMONS YEAR-ROUND ICE RINK!

Trust. Integrity. Care.

For more than 40 years, New Directions has helped children and youth in North Minneapolis overcome the obstacles to their development presented by the inner city environment. We do this through four programs:

Youth Ministry | North Minneapolis Hockey & Figure Skating | After School Tutoring | Self-Sufficiency

Youth Ministry

The Youth Ministry Program functions as a neighborhood youth club. This program is for up to 25 youth in grades 7-12 and is comprised of the following subprograms:

  • Peer Counseling

  • Young Neighbors

  • Members' Choice

  • Leaders’ Prerogative

North Minneapolis Hockey & Figure Skating

New Directions works to provide opportunities at all the usual age and skill groups for hockey and figure skating from beginner to accomplished and from 6 to 15 years old, including preparation and facilitation for high school play. We work with community organizations to help them find ways to include low income participants and to create new opportunities for hockey, figure skating, and recreational ice skating where they do not exist in North Minneapolis.

After School Tutoring

We provide after school tutoring, specializing in homework completion and mathematics remediation and enrichment.

NDYM uses its own curriculum, The Expert Mathematician, for remedial and enrichment purposes.

Self-Sufficiency Program

The Self-Sufficiency Program is accessible to participants in the other three programs of New Directions.  Through the Self-Sufficiency Program, children, youth, and their parents are able to earn $8.50 per hour credit for New Directions activities by doing meaningful community work in the Saturday Work Credit Program or by creating fundraisers and fundraising opportunities for participants.

New opportunities. New friends.
